The Savannah River Site covers about 310 square miles in Aiken, Barnwell and Allendale counties. According to the SRS Visitor Guide, Aiken is about 18 miles / 28 minutes from the site and North Augusta about 20 miles / 25 minutes.
Choosing an area
- South Aiken and the Whiskey Road (SC 19) corridor generally shorten the drive: about 15 to 20 minutes to the SC 19 side of the site, compared with about 25 minutes from downtown.
- Horse properties farther east and south can trade a longer drive for more land.
- Most visits start at the SRS Badge Office; your actual gate and building will shape the best area for you.
